ICYMI: The Month of April

April was the perfect kick off for spring! And we definitely started it off with a bang here at Melanin Thriving. From mental health awareness to celebrating black voices, the rest of the year is looking up. If you're new here at Melanin Thriving, welcome to the community! In case you missed some of the topics we talked about last month, here's a little round up to catch you up. Enjoy!

Highlighted 5 Remarkable Black Entrepreneurs

If you haven't guessed by now, Melanin Thriving is a space where we love to celebrate the successes in the Black community. This past month we highlighted some fantastic entrepreneurs. We had a diverse group of creatives in a variety of fields including tech, beauty, and music.

Mental Health and Stress Relief

With the world changing so much and life just lifing we made sure to express the importance of stress management. We also advocate taking the time to take care of YOU. Life will always have its ups and downs and it's important to learn how to manage your emotions and to take tabs on where your mental state is at.

Heeeeyyyyy Ms. Carter

Of course we could not let the month of April go by without congratulating THE Beyoncé Knowles Carter on her country album debut. A fierce Black woman who has always been true to herself and her craft, Bey showed us once again that there is no limit to what we can achieve. We also showed love to the amazing Angel Reese on being drafted to the WNBA Chicago Sky. Angel has continued to show herself as a formidable opponent on the court and all her work paid off in the end. Congrats boo!

Black Women + Health

The healthcare system has a long history of treating black women differently so we dived into how certain diagnosis affects black women. Specifically we talked about Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and maternal healthcare. We talked about the rising transparency around PCOS among black women. We also highlighted how Serena Williams and Elaine Welteroth teaming up to create BirthFund, an initiative to ensure more parents can have access to quality maternal care.

Recommended A Variety of Black Authors

We recommended some amazing books for our community! The black authors we highlighted represented multiple genres and topics. We wanted to provide our audience with a few amazing black authors who were able to share their stories with us!

 Political Climate

In this past political season, there has been so much turmoil in regards to race. We discussed a few of the impacts we could potentially face during this ongoing racial divide. We dived into how the extreme Florida laws will continue to affect our community as well as how the stripping of scholarships from the black community affected one of the top Ivy League Schools in the community.

It's Ya Birthday

In the midst of some of traumatic news we also wanted to make sure we equally were spreading light on the good stuff! Everything doesn’t always have to be so heavy. We celebrate the good despite the bad. So here at Melanin Thriving we made sure to pay tribute to some amazing black celebs born in the month of April.

Changing the Narrative

We topped off the end of the month by discussing one of the most understood diagnosis in our community. Autism. We did the leg work and we made sure to provide you all with the info and resources you needed to learn more about this condition. Furthermore, we created a video that debunked all the typical stereotypes / wrong thinking that people believe about autism.
